Solaris Bus & Coach S.A. has won a tender for the supply of 300 intercity buses InterUrbino to Cotral, a public transport company based in Rome. The framework agreement with a value of nearly €110 million stipulates that within the next four years Polish manufacturer will hand over 300 vehicles to the customer. This year Solaris is to complete the first part of the order which most probably will cover 122 buses. Apart from the sale, the transaction includes also maintenance of the vehicles for ten years.

Modern, 12-metre InterUrbino will operate on regional lines in Lazio, an administrative region located in the central part of the Italian Peninsula. The vehicles ordered are fitted with DAF MX-11 engines developing 240 kW, which meet the most restrictive Euro 6 emission standards. There will be a modern CCTV system on board with 5 cameras enabling the driver to see the area behind the bus as well as vehicle’s interior and second door. Moreover, the buses are to be equipped with such solutions as passenger counting system and voice announcement system.

Up to 49 passengers will be able to travel in the spacious InterUrbino and enjoy comfortable seats with reclining backrests. Efficient air-conditioning will ensure the pleasure of the journey even on hottest days. There will be luggage space provided in compartments located under the floor, which have a capacity of 5.2 cubic metres. Smaller bags will fit perfectly in the luggage racks installed above the seats.

The contract with Cotral is a further order for Solaris intercity vehicles in Italy, but the first on such a large scale. So far Solaris has delivered over 500 buses and trolleybuses to Italian operators. Among these, 60 InterUrbino make up a significant share.

At the same time, it is the second greatest order in the company’s 20-year history, beating such major projects as manufacturing 260 Urbino for Berlin or delivering 225 city buses for Dubai. So far, only Athens City Transport has purchased slightly more Solaris vehicles than Cotral in a single order, which was for 320 Urbino.
